Dry AMD
Dry AMD is characterized by the presence of larger drusen (white) deposits under the retina, which can become associated with progressive thinning of the retina (see below) or, more significantly, with conversion to the wet form
Low vision evaluation and treatment is important for those affected with dry AMD associated with vision loss; studies with visual cylcle modulators are being performed to attempt to determine protection from progressive atrophy (thinning).
Studies regarding cell transplantation for regeneration of damaged or thinned/atrophic areas are ongoing.
